CC FFA greenhand and chapter degrees received

On the night of Jan. 19 the Colonel Crawford/Pioneer and Wynford FFA held a ceremony at Colonel Crawford High School honoring their students who received their greenhand and chapter degrees.

The recipients for the Colonel Crawford chapter degree were as follows: Hannah Yaussy and Dwight Shawk. The requirements for the chapter degree were that they received their greenhand degree, earned $150 with their Supervised Agricultural Experience Project, participated in planning three chapter activities, know five parliamentary procedures, have led a group discussion for 15 minutes., and have satisfactory scholastic record.

They each received a silver pin, to replace their bronze greenhand pin that is worn on their FFA jackets.

Recipients for the greenhand degree were Jessica Lohr, Jessie Sellman, Kendra Hudson, Dylan Lohr, and Natasha Conn. This degree is given to first year members enrolled in Ag class. They each receive a bronze pin for their jackets.

They must have a satisfactory Supervised Agricultural Experience Project, be able to recite the FFA creed, know various history and current issues about the organization including the motto, salute, the FFA emblem, constitution, and chapters program of activities. The bronze pin is to remind them that just as there are more precious metals than bronze, there are also higher degrees to achieve. Congratulations to all of our greenhand and chapter degree recipients.

Speaking Contest

Members of the Colonel Crawford FFA participated in the county public speaking contest held at Colonel Crawford on Tuesday Jan. 19.

Freshman members recited the FFA Creed. The FFA creed was written in 1930 by E.M. Tiffany. The freshman members presented the creed to two judges who score them on memorization of the creed, their power of expression, and their responses to questions about the creed.

Kendra Hudson, Jessie Sellman, Dylan Lohr, Jessica Lohr, Natasha Conn, and Austin Vehrs were the freshman students who participated in this contest. The member going on to the sub-district contest is Kendra Hudson, as she placed second in the contest.

Sophomores and upper classmen can do either the beginning prepared, or advanced prepared contests. These students write and memorize and agriculturally related speech six to eight minutes long and present it to the judges.

Katelyn Lutz placed second in the advanced prepared contest and will move on to sub districts. Dwight Shawk placed first in the beginning prepared contest and will be moving on to sub districts. Crawford was also represented by Hannah Yaussy in this contest.

We would like to thank our judges Nick Stuckman, Matt Stuckman, Sammy Guinther, Becky Guinther, Brenda Kocher, Emily Phelps, Rose Hartschuh, and Ashley Auld. Katelyn, Dwight, and Kendra will be moving to the sub-district contest which will be held at Shelby high school on Feb. 10, at 4 p.m. Good luck to our three speakers.
